The Netherlands does not have many real castles. But between Utrecht and Den Bosch you will find one of the most beautiful: Slot Loevestein. This castle, built between a series of rivers in the 14th century, was home to brave knights and noble women. But it was also used as a prison for rebellious politicians and writers. The most famous ‘guest’ Hugo de Groot, managed to escape the castle by hiding in a book chest. Slot Loevestein has several exciting tours in which you are guided from the highest towers to the deepest dungeons.
